During my internship at United Grain Corporation, I led several high-impact projects that modernized the company's data management systems and improved customer relationships. My primary focus was the Customer Visibility Project, where I transformed the company's customer data management from a manual Excel-based system to an interactive Power BI dashboard. This project required extensive collaboration with multiple departments to gather requirements and ensure the final product would serve diverse stakeholder needs. I facilitated cross-functional meetings to collect initial input and conducted iterative feedback sessions to refine the dashboard's functionality. The project culminated in a presentation to senior leadership, where I demonstrated the dashboard's capabilities and its potential impact on business operations. To ensure long-term sustainability, I created comprehensive documentation including a user guide and recommended steps for future automation, incorporating DAX code for advanced functionality.

In parallel, I contributed to the development of the Profit Partner mobile application, a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening relationships with grain producers, the company's primary customer base. Using Figma, I designed and prototyped the application interface, incorporating UI/UX best practices throughout the development process. My approach included extensive research into producer needs and preferences, ensuring the final design would deliver meaningful value to end users. The prototype demonstrated how producers could more effectively interact with United Grain and access critical services through the application.

I also played a key role in the company's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system redesign initiative. This complex project involved participating in vendor meetings and conducting comprehensive user research across all company departments. I met with individual teams to document their current processes, pain points, and desired improvements in their software tools. This deep-dive approach to understanding user needs and workflows provided valuable insights that informed the ERP system requirements and design decisions. My research helped ensure the new system would effectively support each department's specific operational needs while maintaining cohesion across the organization.

As a Data Analytics tutor at Washington State University, I provided comprehensive support to undergraduate students navigating the complexities of data analysis and statistical programming. My role involved conducting one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions where I broke down complex analytical concepts into digestible components that aligned with students' varying levels of technical proficiency.

A significant portion of my work focused on helping students master programming languages essential to data analytics, including Python, R, and SQL. During my tenure at Nisqually Red Wind Casino, I spearheaded several critical initiatives that modernized security operations while ensuring strict compliance with state gaming regulations. My flagship achievement was the complete transformation of the facility's key management system. This complex project began with creating detailed paper-based mapping of key matrices, progressed through developing an Excel-based database schema, and culminated in implementing a SQL-driven proprietary key management solution. This digital transformation significantly improved key tracking accuracy and operational efficiency while maintaining the stringent security protocols required in a gaming environment.

I implemented a comprehensive inventory management system inspired by industrial best practices, introducing a barcode-based bin system that modernized how security equipment and supplies were tracked and maintained. This system dramatically reduced search times and improved inventory accuracy, while providing real-time visibility into supply levels and usage patterns.

Logistics Analyst — Shred-It | Aug 2018 – Sep 2019

At Shred-It, I managed complex logistics operations while maintaining detailed customer and compliance records for secure document destruction services. As the primary administrator of our SAP-based customer database, I maintained comprehensive records of service schedules, payment histories, and customer interactions for a large client portfolio. This role required meticulous attention to detail in tracking service requirements, managing customer relationships, and ensuring accurate billing across multiple service types.

Using proprietary logistics software, I optimized route planning and scheduling for our fleet of secure document destruction vehicles. This involved daily route analysis and adjustments to accommodate changing customer needs while maximizing operational efficiency. I coordinated closely with drivers and dispatch to ensure timely service delivery while maintaining the security standards essential to our document destruction services.

Area Manager — Amazon | Jun 2014 – Mar 2018

During my tenure at Amazon, I held a dynamic leadership role that blended operational excellence, continuous improvement, and global collaboration. As an Area Manager, I led teams of over 50 associates, driving process optimization initiatives through Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen methodologies. These efforts resulted in significant operational efficiencies and the adoption of standardized procedures across multiple fulfillment centers.

My role in risk assessment and management involved analyzing operational data, workforce trends, and KPIs to identify potential risks and implement proactive mitigation strategies. Projects

Customer Visibility Project

To improve executive access to customer data, I led the development of a modern business intelligence solution that replaced 55 years of manually maintained Excel records. The project involved designing and executing a full extract, transform, and load (ETL) pipeline using Power BI and Power Query, with light use of DAX for calculations and KPI development.

I pulled transactional customer data from the company’s legacy database, cleaned and transformed it to reflect current business logic, and built interactive dashboards in Power BI that allowed users to drill down from high-level trends into customer-specific insights. These visualizations gave executives visibility into active customers and engagement history, enabling more strategic decision-making.

The project required cross-departmental collaboration, coordinating with sales, IT, and operations teams through regular meetings to gather feedback and iterate on dashboard design. I managed stakeholder communication and presented the final solution to executive leadership, incorporating their input to ensure the tool met real-world operational needs.

Yelp Data Pipeline

This project focused on building a full-stack data pipeline using real-world business and customer review data from Yelp. The goal was to collect, organize, and present actionable insights about local businesses.

Key components of the project included:

  • Extraction: Used the Yelp API and Python to gather business and review data, including names, ratings, locations, review text, and categories.
  • Database Design: Modeled and implemented a normalized relational database in PostgreSQL. Designed schema relationships between businesses, reviews, and user data to support efficient querying.
  • Transformation & Loading: Parsed and cleaned the data in Python, then inserted it into PostgreSQL using psycopg2 and batch-loading techniques.
  • Interface Development: Built a lightweight Python-based interface that allowed users to query the database and view search results (e.g., top-rated restaurants in a zip code, most-reviewed businesses by category).
  • Analysis & Insights: Enabled users to extract insights from customer feedback patterns, average ratings by location, and review volume over time.

This project showcased end-to-end skills in API usage, relational schema design, SQL querying, and Python dashboard development for data exploration.

Key Database Management

Faced with a disorganized and incomplete key tracking system, I initiated and led a full redesign of our internal key control processes to align with Washington State gaming regulations. Working closely with the Security Manager, I assessed compliance requirements and created a comprehensive, scalable solution to manage physical key access across the facility.

In the initial phase, I audited the existing records, many of which were fragmented across unstructured files. and compiled them into a coherent working guide. I then developed an Excel-based toolkit that included:

  • A master key directory with data validation to reduce entry errors
  • Pre-configured audit forms designed to mirror state compliance checks
  • A future-state roadmap to guide our long-term reorganization and software migration

Once a software vendor was selected, I built and deployed an SQL-based key tracking database to centralize operations. I also automated generation of state-mandated audit documents to streamline recurring compliance processes.

This project not only improved day-to-day efficiency but also ensured alignment with regulatory standards, reducing risk and improving the audit-readiness of the department.

Banking Market ETL

As part of the IBM Data Engineering Certificate, I completed an end-to-end data pipeline focused on global banking market capitalization. The project required extracting structured data from the web, transforming it for consistency and completeness, and preparing it for downstream analytics.

Key components of the project included:

  • Extraction: Used Python with BeautifulSoup and pandas to web-scrape international bank market cap data from HTML tables.
  • Transformation: Cleaned and standardized the dataset, handling nulls, formatting inconsistencies, and column normalization to ensure reliable trend analysis.
  • Loading: Exported the processed data into both CSV and SQLite formats, building a lightweight database to support further analysis.
  • Validation: Wrote and executed SQL queries to verify data integrity and filter key financial indicators in preparation for visualization and reporting.

This project demonstrated practical ETL skills in a real-world context, with a focus on financial data engineering and preparation for dashboard-driven insights.
